The leaked dataset contains the identity card numbers, full names, dates of birth and other personal information (PII) of Indonesian citizens.
BreachForums, which emerged after the takeover of the famous hacker forum RaidForms, the hacker using the nickname Bjorka, also announced the data breach.
According to the information in the forum, the dataset contains 20 GB of information about 105 million Indonesian citizens. It is estimated that the seized data set was accessed through the Indonesian General Election Commission.
Announcing the leak, the hacker shared an image containing the personal data of several citizens.
The data leaked as a result of the research conducted by the Cybernews news site includes the national identity card number, name, registration address, province of residence, age, gender, ballot box number and other sensitive information.
105 million data accounts for roughly 40% of the country’s population. The resulting dataset sells for $5,000.
If the data breach is confirmed, it seems that a new one will be added to the long attacks that Indonesia has been exposed to this year. Many institutions in the country, such as banks, hospitals, the police force, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, were attacked in 2022.
In the past weeks, hackers have again targeted the Indonesian Ministry of Communications and IT, and published a dataset that allegedly contains registration data of 1.3 billion Indonesian SIM cards. It is claimed that the information contained in the 87 GB data set is linked to the identity information of the people with their phone numbers. Hackers came up with an offer of $ 50,000 for the data set, which was also published on BreachForums.
