Dell began emailing data breach notifications to customers yesterday, stating that a Dell portal containing customer information related to purchases had been breached.

Dell is confirming a data breach that reportedly involved “49 million customer records,” according to Bleeping Computer. Although Dell confirmed that a breach occurred, the extent of the breach has not been verified. A hacker on the Dark Web reportedly claimed that the breach included 49 million records containing information dating back seven years to 2017.

Dell states that during the breach, the threat actor accessed the following information:

Name

Physical address

Dell hardware and ordering information, including service tag, product description, order date and related warranty information

The company emphasized that the stolen information did not include financial or payment information, email addresses or phone numbers, and that it was working with law enforcement and a third-party forensics firm to investigate the incident.
