Father of Anti-virus Has Died

British-born US tech entrepreneur and co-founder of McAfee Anti-Virus, John McAfee worked for NASA, Xerox and Lockheed Martin before releasing the world's first commercial anti-virus in 1987. Intel (INTC.O) bought the business in 2011 when McAfee was no longer involved. The program still bears his name and has 500 million users worldwide.

McAfee died by suicide in a Barcelona prison on Wednesday after the Spanish supreme court allowed his extradition to the United States on tax evasion charges.

McAfee's lawyer, Javier Villalba, said the anti-virus software pioneer died by hanging himself after nine months in prison drove him to despair.
