Uber Hacked

Uber confirmed on Thursday (September 16th) that its systems had been hacked. “We are currently facing a cybersecurity incident,” the company tweeted. We are in contact with the security units, we will post new information as it becomes available.” made the statement.

Uber’s security breach became known, the investigation began and it was found that the internal computer systems had been taken offline, the New York Times reported. Employees at the Uber office said they received a message via Slack, the company’s internal messaging system, that Uber was subject to a data breach. Hackers announced the data breach from the account of an Uber employee they managed to access. The attackers have obtained the password of an account that has the right to access the Uber system with the social engineering method. As a result of the attack, the Slack application became a platform where hackers communicate, not Uber employees. Uber employees were instructed not to use the app.

Uber revealed more details about the safety incident that occurred last week, in a new statement Monday. The attack is thought to have been carried out by the LAPSUS hacker group.

“This group often targets tech companies and uses similar techniques in its attacks,” Uber said in a statement. said.

The financially motivated hacker group took action in March 2022 to arrest seven 16- to 21-year-olds thought to be linked to the London Police hacker group, which took a major hit as a result of the arrest.

The hacker behind the Uber breach was stated to be an 18-year-old teenager using the pseudonym Tea Pot.

While the Uber company’s investigation into the incident continues, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Department of Justice are conducting the process together with leading IT firms.
